16/10/2010: Statement of Ambassador Willy C. Gaa on the demise of Fil-Am Leader Nonoy Mendoza

16 October 2010, Washington, DC – It is with sadness that I learned about the passing of a friend and notable leader in the Filipino-American community, Mr. Nonoy Mendoza. A businessman and a journalist, Nonoy used his talents to promote the Philippines and the interests of Filipinos and the larger Asian community in the United States for many years.

Among his many accomplishments, Nonoy established the successful Twenty Outstanding Filipinos Abroad (TOFA) project which gives recognition to his fellow Filipinos who have excelled in their chosen fields and who, just like him, led a life of service to their communities. His poor health did not deter him from taking part in the recent 2010 TOFA awarding ceremony, which was held last month in Washington, D.C.

Through the Filipino Image Magazine and the Pinoy Global Online News, the legacy of Nonoy Mendoza lives on and it is hoped that his career will serve as an inspiration for others to emulate. -- END
