10/06/2009: The United States of America Continues to Top the List of Newly Registered Absentee Voters for the 2010 Elections

10 June 2009 - According to Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa, Filipinos in the United States continue to top the list in numbers of new registrations worldwide by having registered a total of 15,728 absentee voters in the United States as of 04 June 2009.  The Consulate General in Los Angeles had the most number of registrations at 5,827 followed by the Consulate General in New York (2,810) and the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. (2,444).

Reiterating a call he made to Filipino Americans on 18 May 2009 to exercise their right to vote for the political leadership of the Philippines in the upcoming national elections in June 2010, Ambassador Gaa once again encourages all Filipinos in the U.S. to register for absentee voting and cast their votes in the elections next year. Ambassador Gaa said, “Make sure to take part in the shaping of the destiny of the Philippines and be engaged in the democratic processes of our country, take this opportunity to register and vote in next year’s elections as an absentee voter. The registration period for new voters and those who failed to vote in the last elections in 2007 is on 31 August 2009.”
