09/10/2018: Advisory No. 2: Hurricane Michael

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy reiterates its advice to Filipino communities along the path of Hurricane Michael to monitor the movement of the storm, undertake all necessary preparations, and heed the warnings of local officials as the Category 3 hurricane is set to make a landfall near Panama City, Florida on Wednesday, 10 October 2018.

According to The National Hurricane Center's latest advisory issued at 4:00 PM on 09 October 2018, Hurricane Michael will bring life-threatening storm surge, hurricane-force winds, and heavy rainfall along the Northeastern Gulf Coast, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.

A State of Emergency has already been declared in the States of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.

There are approximately 232,000 individuals of Filipino origin residing in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas.

The Philippine Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in these areas.
