WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy will join more than 25 other diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. in the 10thAnniversary of the Embassy Chef Challenge to be held on 17 May 2018 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

Restaurant veteran Chef Abie Sincioco-Mateo will represent the Philippine Embassy in Washington’s leading culinary event. She will be presenting pork sisig to be paired with San Miguel Pale Pilsen.

“I’m honored and excited to represent the Philippines in the Embassy Chef Challenge in its milestone year. Great attention is finally being paid to Filipino food in the US and I hope to help keep this positive momentum going and further enlarge the international support base for Philippine cuisine,” Chef Abie said.

This is the third time that the Philippine Embassy is joining the Embassy Chef Challenge. In 2016, Chef Claude Tayag’s bringhe bagged the People’s Choice Award while Chef Red Garcia introduced guests to binalot, the “Filipino lunch box”, in 2017. Award-winning mixologist Enzo Lim (2016) and bartender Jojo Valenzuela (2017) served up special cocktails to pair with the dishes.

“Being a part of this annual gastro-diplomacy extravaganza allows us to not only promote our nation’s unique dishes but also contribute to the multi-cultural heritage of Washington, D.C.,” said Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez.

“We sincerely thank the TCMA and all of the partner organizations for continuing to provide this high-profile platform through which to conduct our cultural diplomacy,” Ambassador Romualdez added.
