20/11/2009: Ambassador Gaa Congratulates Three Filipinos with Winning Entries in the 2009 World Bank Development Marketplace Global Competition

20 November 2009. Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa congratulated three Filipinos whose four project proposals were among twenty-six winners that emerged from the four-day 2009 Global Development Market Place on Climate Change Competition sponsored by the World Bank in Washington D.C. Ambassador Gaa said, “I wish to congratulate Leonardo Rosario, Eugenio Manalo and Jazmin Gutierrez for their remarkable achievement. Their success positively showcases the creative abilities, resourcefulness and remarkable intellectual ingenuity of the Filipino people. They have made our country and our people proud.”

The ninth annual Development Marketplace Global Competition took place in the midst of an international debate on how to mitigate the causes and adapt to the effects of climate change. The competition is quite relevant because managing the risk of climate change will require not only one hundred, but thousands of ideas from communities from all over the world. There were originally some 1,750 proposals and the winners will be awarded funds and training by the World Bank.

These are the winning entries from the Philippines:

Leonardo Rosario - Trowel Development Foundation, Inc.

Eugenio Manalo – LAMBS Agri-mechanicals / University of the Philippines Los Baños

Jazmin Guiterrez – Philippines Business for Social Progress
