17 OCTOBER 2011, WASHINGTON, DC. The ASEAN Agriculture Attaches (AAA), which is based in Washington D.C., held their eighth meeting at the Embassy of the Philippines on 14 October 2011.  The meeting was chaired by Philippine Agricultural Attaché Josyline C. Javelosa.

The group has been meeting since 2009 to discuss common agricultural, fisheries and food trade and cooperation interests with the United States. This is the second time for the Philippines to host the AAA. Resource persons in the meeting included representatives from the US Food and Drug Administration, US Agency of International Development, and the US-ASEAN Business Council.

The gathering was also held in commemoration of World Food Day, officially slated for October 16 this year. "Food prices - from crisis to stability” has been chosen as this year's World Food Day theme, where every stakeholder is urged to seriously look at what causes swings in food prices, and do what needs to be done to reduce their impact on the weakest members of global society.

Other agriculture representatives of the ASEAN Embassies who attended were Tith Rithipol-Cambodia, Achmad Rachman-Indonesia, Sounthone Diangsathy-Laos, Naim Madji Sulaiman-Malaysia, Kyaw Tin Shein-Myanmar, Nur Amira Abdul Karim-Singapore, Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs, Tanida Sitchawat, Chanyanis Utiskul-Thailand, and Anh Nguyen-Vietnam.  END
