04/10/2011: Philippine Embassy Washington DC Outreach in Orlando, Florida

October 04, 2011, Washington, DC – The Philippine Embassy in coordination with the Council for Filipino American Organizations in Central Florida (CFAO), sent a consular team led by Consul General Domingo Nolasco to Orlando, Florida to extend consular services to Filipinos in the area. The consular outreach was held on October 1-2, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel Downtown.

Philippine Embassy Washington DC Consular Team led by Consul General Domingo P. Nolasco, with  officers of the Council for Filipino American Organization (CFAO) led by Ms. Leilani Fontanilla, Chair, and Mr. Val Dagani, Jr., Adviser, in Orlando Florida on October 1-2, 2011.

A total of 237 electronic passport applications were processed on-site.

Consul General Nolasco also administered the oath of allegiance to 107 former Filipinos who reacquired their Philippine citizenship under RA 9225, the Dual Citizenship Law of 2003. Before the oath taking ceremony, Consul General Nolasco briefed the audience of the benefits of dual citizenship, including the right to vote and to reside in the Philippines without any limit. He also encouraged them to register from 31 October 2011 as oversees absentee voters and be responsible citizens of the Philippines and the United States in petitioning their respective congressmen and senators  in the US to support and sponsor the Save our Industries Act, a bill that will allow the export duty-free to the United States of Philippine apparel made of U.S. fabrics and aims to increase jobs and exports income for both countries.

During this consular mission, Embassy personnel also provided other services to Filipinos and Filipino-Americans such as registration of births and marriages and notarials.

Post’s consular team was composed of Consular Assistants Larry Sumando, Maria Aurora Real, Lyra Ocampo, Joey Macatula, Abraham Agustin, and Collecting Officer Rennell Martinez.

Post’s next consular outreach services will be held in Buford, Georgia on 5 November 2011, and in Tampa, Florida on  26-27 November 2011.- END
