18 August 2011, Washington, D.C. Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. recently met with Senator Roy D. Blunt of Missouri (R-MO) at the US Capitol. Senator Blunt is a principal Republican co-sponsor of the SAVE Our Industries Act (with Senator Daniel K. Inouye). His Senate seat was previously held by Republican Kit Bond (also a SAVE Act co-sponsor until his retirement.)

During the meeting, Ambassador Cuisia expressed appreciation for Senator Blunt’s co-sponsorship of the SAVE Act bill whose aims are in line with the objective of generating export income and job growth for both the Philippines and the United States. Senator Blunt told Ambassador Cuisia that his office would remain helpful to the Philippines and that the two countries “must continue to be good friends and allies.” Ambassador Cuisia also briefed Senator Blunt on defense and security cooperation between the Philippines and the United States. Eleven percent of Asian Americans in Missouri are of Filipino descent.

Senator Blunt is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies of the Committee of Appropriations and the Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. He is also a member of the Committee on Rules and Administration and the Select Committee on Intelligence. In the House of Representatives, Senator Blunt served as the U.S. Representative from Missouri's 7th congressional district from 1997 to 2011 and was the House Minority Whip during the 110th Congress. He also served as interim House Majority Leader from September 29, 2005, to February 2, 2006. END
