12/08/2011: US Ambassador Thomas Meets with PH Embassy Officers

12 August 2011, Washington DC. United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas, Jr. met today with officers of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. led by Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr.  He was accompanied by Mr. Alistair Baskey, the State Department’s new Desk Officer for the Philippines.

Ambassadors Cuisia and Thomas discussed a number of bilateral issues, including the areas of security cooperation, agriculture and trade.  Ambassador Cuisia solicited the assistance of Ambassador Thomas with regards to the plight of the Filipino teachers in Prince Georges County and Baltimore, as well as on concerns regarding the issuance of visas to Filipino physical therapists.

Ambassador Thomas presented his credentials to former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in April 2010.  He joined the Foreign Service in 1984, and served as U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh from 2003 to 2005. He also served in the White House as the Director for South Asia at the National Security Council from 2001 to 2002.  END
