29 JUNE 2011, WASHINGTON, D.C. Representative Darrell Issa of California reaffirmed his support for strong Philippine-United States ties during a meeting with Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario last June 22.

Representative Issa represents California’s 49th Congressional District and was the Co-Chair of the Philippines-U.S. Congressional Friendship Caucus from 2003 to 2009. At the beginning of the 111th Congress, House Republicans nominated Representative Issa to serve as the top Republican on the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Representative Issa assured Secretary del Rosario of his support for the SAVE Act and offered his help in generating further backing from his colleagues in the House. Representative Issa was a strong champion of the Filipino veterans equity act and a key supporter of the campaign to keep the investment of CalPERS, a California pension fund, in the Philippines. He expressed his intention to visit the Philippines soon. END.
